Direct Energy Business wants to take a quick moment to introduce the newest Market Intelligence Team member, Chris Dubay. Chris started working at Direct Energy Business on December 20, 2012, and actually began working for Direct Energy in August 2012 when the company purchased NYSEG Solutions/Energetix. He worked in the Binghamton, NY office, but recently made the move to Pittsburgh. Below, Chris talks a little bit about his experiences – both professionally and personally. Get to know Chris!

Energy industry background
I started my career working for Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. (now First Energy) as a power dispatcher in the system control center. When electric deregulation began, I made the jump to the unregulated side of the business, and traded energy in the Midwest and PJM.  Working as an energy trader, I experienced many company consolidations, purchases/sales, and relocations, and worked in several different cities, including Chicago, Decatur, IL, and a short stint at Equitable Resources in Pittsburgh. In 1998, I moved to Syracuse, NY to work for a retail energy provider on the wholesale side of the business.  I began working on the retail side for NYSEG Solutions/Energetix in 2008 in Binghamton, NY, and continued there until the companies were purchased by Direct Energy this past August.

Current job title/duties
My current job title is Senior Analyst, Market Intelligence. I am in charge of the New York and New England markets, and my main responsibility is to support DEB Sales by providing current market information and pricing signals to optimize the benefits to our C&I customers. I am extremely happy and feel privileged to be in the Market Intelligence group at DEB. Pittsburgh is an awesome place to live, the people at DEB are bright, talented, and friendly, and there’s no place else where I’d prefer to work for the rest of my career!  (Sounds like a commercial for DE, doesn’t it?)

Favorite hobbies
I used to run a lot, but my knees now refuse to cooperate, so I ride my bike more and try to swim when I can. I love to ski out west, and I pretend to know a little about photography. I also play guitar in a classic rock band in Cleveland.

Favorite TV shows/movies
My favorite TV shows are Big Bang Theory, Seinfeld and Band of Brothers, and my favorite movies include Spinal Tap and anything else by Christopher Guest.

Fun facts
I collect hot sauces.
I love pork with ham and mechanically separated chicken with a two year shelf life.
I had my baby canine teeth for over 40 years.

Family
I have a 21 year old son who graduates this year from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BS in chemical engineering and a bartending certificate. I also have two cats, Sid and Nancy.
